Four Generations of Craftsmanship

1945

Modern Cabinet Company (MCC) was founded in 1945 by George Schor and two partners. They established the company in an old stable on 125th Street in New York City, transforming the space into a workshop where they began their journey in cabinet manufacturing. When George’s son, David Schor, returned and healed from World War II, he took over the helm, guiding the company through the early years. Today, MCC proudly stands as a fourth-generation family business, continuing a legacy of craftsmanship and quality.

1960

By 1960, the two partners were gone and Modern Cabinet Company was supplying many builders in the NY metro area with their kitchens. The factory (no longer a stable) had been expanded to include two adjacent buildings.

1971

In 1971 Modern Cabinet Company moved from NYC to Mt. Vernon. During this period, David Schor’s son Andrew joined the firm. Andrew is the current Chief Executive Officer for Modern Cabinet Company. Another change took place during this period as well, Modern’s customer base started shifting away from multi-family builders toward upscale private residential homes.

1984

In 1984, Modern Cabinet Company moved to its current location in Poughkeepsie, NY. Poughkeepsie is located in the Hudson Valley about 60 miles north of NYC and 50 miles south of Albany, NY. The production facility has grown from 15,000 square feet to over 40,000 square feet over the past 30 years.

1997

In 1997, Modern Cabinet Company took a bold step by shifting its focus to wholesale, building a strong dealer network. This strategic change transformed our business model from selling directly to homeowners to collaborating with designers and retail showrooms, allowing us to provide our high-quality custom cabinets to a broader audience through trusted partners.

2007

Samuel Schor, son of Andrew Schor, joined Modern Cabinet Company (MCC), continuing the family legacy into its fourth generation. His involvement ensures that the tradition of excellence and craftsmanship established by his great-grandfather George Schor endures

TODAY

Modern Cabinet Company continues to constantly improve and upgrade their manufacturing procedures to produce a better end product. Combining age old hand techniques with modern technology, Modern Cabinet Company is able to produce a precise quality product that will last a long time. Modern Cabinet Company now specializes in manufacturing full custom cabinetry for any application in the home.

Green initiative

Modern Cabinet Company has long been committed to responsible business practices, and many green initiatives were already in place before we formally launched our “Going Green” program. By focusing on the most efficient use of materials, we were able to adopt a green product offering with minimal changes to our procedures. Now, we’ve taken our sustainability efforts even further by becoming self-powered, utilizing 346 solar panels that cover 40,000 square feet of our roof, reducing our environmental footprint and contributing to cleaner energy.

I had my kitchen done by them 29 years ago and now I am going back to get my new place we are downsizing to, a new kitchen. In all those years, not single disaligned drawer or door. They look as good as new. Nobody believes it is that old. They were great with great prices.

We purchased our cabinets about 15 years ago. A couple of months ago the drawer front for our recycling bins started getting g loose and eventually the brackets broke. Sam sent me the new brackets to get it fixed! Thank you for excellent customer service

We had Modern Cabinets build and in stall our kitchen over 15 years ago and they still look and operate great. We are a family of 5 and we do a lot of cooking and entertaining so it’s not just a show kitchen it gets heavy use and all the draw and doors are in good condition. We have many other friends who have needed to repair or refinish after a similar time. The craftsmanship from Modern has held up under the test of time.
